Some useful links to help you teach about Lions.

World Wildlife Organisation

As the world’s leading conservation organization, WWF works in nearly 100 countries to tackle the most pressing issues at the intersection of nature, people, and climate. They collaborate with local communities to conserve the natural resources we all depend on and build a future in which people and nature thrive. Together with partners at all levels, they transform markets and policies toward sustainability, tackle the threats driving the climate crisis, and protect and restore wildlife and their habitats.”

Born Free.

Working alongside their partners, they are helping to conserve and safeguard lion populations in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Sudan.

Their initiatives primarily work to reduce human-wildlife conflict by promoting co-existence between people and lions. For example, to diminish the loss of livestock and pre-emptive or retaliatory killings of lions near Amboseli National Park, Kenya, we are constructing cost-effective predator-proof bomas.

They are also collaborating with communities to encourage tolerance; by finding solutions to reduce conflict, our programmes highlight the benefits of co-existence to ensure the survival of lions, humans, and their livestock.

They work collaboratively with their partners to provide a focused programme, at grassroots level, to ensure the conservation and survival of wild lions.

Born Free’s ongoing initiatives work within communities to promote co-existence and facilitate people and wildlife living together more harmoniously.

To date, at least 2,500 people and 32,500 livestock are now better protected as a consequence of our predator-proof bomas programme. This is set to rise as we forge partnerships with African Wildlife Foundation and extend boma construction into West Kilimanjaro, adjacent to Amboseli, in Tanzania.
